IDFI held a lecture and a film screening about the mass graves of Batumi in Poland

On December 11, 2023, in Warsaw, Poland, a lecture by Anton Vatcharadze, head of the Memory and Disinformation Studies Direction of the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI), was organized by “Witryna Domu Wschodniego”. 

 

The topic of the lecture was "Archaeological and anthropological research conducted on the mass graves of the repressed in Batumi in 1937-1938". 

 

The meeting also featured a screening of the Radio Liberty film "Cemetery of the Shot Dead in Batumi", which shows how the team of the Polish Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) helped the Georgian side in the search and exhumation work at the site of the discovery of the mass graves of Soviet terror in Batumi.

 

The event was attended by representatives of the Polish Institute of National Remembrance (IPN), Kartvelologists, etc. Among the attendees was Eva Kowalska, the former director of the Katyn Museum, who expressed her desire to cooperate with the establishment of the museum in Batumi.

 

The event was held in a discussion format, allowing the attending public the opportunity to express their opinions on the challenges related to the mass graves of the Great Terror.
