IDFI in cooperation with the Information Center on NATO & EU opened a memorial plate in honor of Isidore Ramishvili at the public school of the village Didivani, Chokhatauri municipality on May 24, 2018. The event was attended by the school students, representatives of the local municipality and Mishel Ramishvili, grandson of the Noe Ramishvili, the Chairman of Government of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia.
Isidore Ramishvili (June 7, 1859 - January 3, 1937)
Born in the village Didivani. Was one of the founders of the Georgian Social-Democratic Movement, a member of the National Council and the Constituent Assembly of of the First Republic of Georgia.
In 1887 he founded a school in village Didivani, where he was the first teacher. One of his pupils was Noe Ramishvili, the future chairman of the government. In 1891 by the initiative of Isidore Ramishvili first Public Library in Guria region was founded. On May 26, 1918, Isidore Ramishvili signed the Act of Independence of Georgia.
On November 14, 1937, Isidore Ramishvili was sentenced to death by the Soviet authorities.
In 2016, the public school of Didvani was given Isidore Ramishvili's name. In 2018 the school opened the Memorial Museum of Isidore and Noe Ramishvili.
After the event Anton Vacharadze, a Historian / Head of the Archive and Soviet Study Direction at IDFI and Irakli Iremadze, the Head of the Study Center of the First Republic of Georgia at TSU Library spoke about Georgia’s pass towards independence and Isidore Ramishvili’s role in this regards.
